Community Groups consist of about ten individuals who meet in someone's home for fellowship, Bible study, and prayer, basically to share life together.
Purpose:
Community Groups exist for people to experience authentic community and spiritual growth.
Strategy:
Community Groups provide a predictable, small group environment where we learn to share life together.
Dream:
To become a church where nobody stands alone.
Why Does True North Do Community Groups?
Community Group is a kitchen environment enabling people to connect with God and each other. It is a place where life change can occur, a place where we share our stories. It is a place to be encouraged, equipped, and challenged as we travel the road of faith together.
When Do Community Groups Meet?
Each community group decides when and where it wants to meet. Generally, groups meet in the evenings during the week.
How Long Does A Community Group Last?
Community groups commit to meet for 12-18 months. After this point the groups will split into two new groups to make room for newcomers.
How do I Get Into A Community Group?
New Community groups begin every January and September. Just complete an information sheet found at the information table and you will be contacted.
Values & Goals:
Relationships – While prayer and discussion of curriculum are key elements of a community group, the driving force behind the group is the building of relationships.
Authenticity – The atmosphere of a community group should encourage openness and transparency among members. This is an environment where people should feel free to be themselves.
Confidentiality – For authenticity to occur, members must be able to trust that issues discussed within a community group will not be shared outside the group.
Respect – Group members should avoid saying anything that will embarrass other members of the group (including their spouses!).
Availability – Community Groups have a specific time and place where they meet, but members should also be ready to care for each other on other occasions where a member is going through something difficult.
Multiplication – Group members recognize that one of the goals of their group is to start a new group following the initial 12 month period. This creates an ongoing way for newcomers to plug in.
